Although the windows and roof have been replaced and the gym has been renovated, the capital campaign to pay for all the work continues. Notre Dame has had ten pens made from the maple of the original gym floor by certified Tamarack Artist Greg Cartwright of Cartwright’s Creations. Greg specializes in items made from salvaged wood from various locations throughout West Virginia. The pens are displayed in a box which also contains a card describing the origin of the wood. The box is for display purposes only and is not made from the old gym floor.
Cartwright has also engraved 30 eight inch sections of the original gym floor. Advancement director, Ian McAra said, “The floor sections have not been altered or improved in any way. The tongue in groove system is visible along with any other imperfections which clearly shows the true character of the original gymnasium floor which so many of our graduates would have set foot upon.”
The pens are available for a minimum donation of $200 and the floor sections are available for a minimum donation of $100. McAra continued, “We are hoping that the items available will attract new donors to the capital campaign and may be encourage current donors to increase upon their original gift.”
