Ashleigh Petitto has signed for Fairmont State University Acrobatics and Tumbling Team. She chose the school because it instantly felt like home when she stepped onto campus. It gave her a sense of comfort and a homey feeling right away. More importantly though, she wanted to continue the family legacy of a being a Fairmont State athlete. She said, “Both my parents participated in sports at Fairmont, my Dad on the basketball team, and my Mom on the cheerleading team.”

Petitto is looking forward to trying something new by joining the acrobatics and tumbling team saying, “A&T is a new, upcoming sport for the NCAA and I’m excited to learn new skills. I’m also excited to meet new friends and teammates and hopefully win a few championships as well.”

Petitto spoke with gratitude about the role Notre Dame has had to play in preparing her for college saying, “The school, staff, and friends have taught me to have faith in everything I do and live in the eyes of God. I’m excited to bring that with me to college and for the rest of my life. I have been a part of the varsity cheer leading team for four years and it has prepared me for college athletics. It helped me gain confidence in myself and in what I do. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my coaches, Maria DuPont and, my Mom, Michelle Petitto. It’s been an honor to cheer for them, my school, and with my friends. I hope I make them and Notre Dame proud. No matter how far I go, I’ll always be an Irish fan! Go ND.”
